Lab Technician I - Monterey Winery

General Description of Duties:


This Full-Time hourly position is responsible for the timely and accurate analysis of grapes, must, and wine for multiple wine brands and programs.  The position works closely with the Lab Manager to manage daily analysis, and interacts regularly with the winemaking and production teams.


Specific Duties:


  • Equipment setup, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting
  • Prepare reagents and standard solutions
  • Perform routine wine analysis in accordance to standard operating procedures
  • Recording lab analysis into winemaking database
  • Juice and wine sampling from tanks and barrels
  • Adherence to safety rules and requirements in the lab and cellar
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor




  • Degree in enology or other chemical/biological science is highly preferred
  • One or more harvests worked in a winery laboratory
  • Knowledge of basic winery and cellar procedures is desirable
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • Punctual and available for overtime or flexible hours as required, especially during harvest
  • Desirable traits:  Highly organized, attention to detail, strong communicator, problem solving, can work collaboratively and independently, strong work ethic, and positive attitude.


Physical Demands:


  • Able to lift 40 lbs
  • Able to work in cold, wet, hot, and/or noisy environments
  • Able to stand or walk for extended periods of time
  • Exposure to common wine additives and products using appropriate personal protective equipment
