International Cellar Harvest Intern

Job Description:

We are part of the Jackson Family Wines team of wineries and we make wine for several brands, Freemark Abbey, Kendall-Jackson and La Crema.

 

Our barrel room stores 22000 barrels and we crush around 4000 tons, mostly red Bordeaux varietals and some Pinot noir. We make a small volume of white wines as well, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blc, and Viognier.

 

This opportunity is considered a Cellar internship as opposed to a Winemaking internship. It’s duration is from mid-August to the end of December

Job Roles / Responsibilities

Working in an indoor / outdoor facility and reporting to directions given by the Cellar Master and Forepersons, the successful applicant will have opportunities to learn the following:

Following and observing all safe cellar practices
Red fermentation management – pump overs, rack & returns.
Additions – yeast, acid, nutrients, SO2 including calculations.
The use of all cellar equipment (and most importantly) it’s cleaning & sanitizing.
Barrel work – filling, racking and topping.
Racking, transferring and the movement of juice and wine.

Assist the pressing team.

A couple of field trips will be included in the Harvest experience.

Requirements

Previous harvest experience is preferred but not 100% necessary and a degree in winemaking/enology is favorable.
Effective communication skills in English.
The ability to work long hours through the busy harvest time.
Ability to lift 50lbs as required.
The successful applicant must provide their own transportation while some assistance will be provided to help find housing..

All applicants must pass a drug and physical test after receiving an offer of employment to be eligible to commence employment.
