Position Summary:

 Reporting to the Indirect Procurement Manager, the Indirect Buyer 1 position at Jackson Family Wines is responsible for decision making in determining the purchasing needs of the organization. This role manages procurement projects through identification of spend categories where JFW benefits from leveraging demand across the company and executes the appropriate strategies for optimum quality, delivery and cost across indirect products and services. This role involves engaging with business partners and Indirect Procurement Manager to develop strategies to execute business cases, project plans, negotiate and implement Master Agreements. This will require strong negotiating, problem-solving, and analytical skills, with a balance of soft skills and assertiveness to influence process improvement and cost saving across the company.


Job Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):

  • The Indirect Buyer will lead assigned procurement efforts beginning with spend analysis through RFI, RFP, or RFQ, supplier evaluation and selection, to contract execution and implementation.
  • Negotiate and implement Master Agreements: Prepare scope documents and contracts, coordinate supplier and internal stakeholder contract negotiations, Legal and Risk Management contract review, and prepare final contract summaries for signatures per JFW Signature Authorization Policy
  • Consult with Indirect Procurement Manager and business stakeholders to develop cross functional project plans, goals, and deliverables for assigned projects
  • Work with Finance and internal systems to pull spend analysis by supplier and category for project prioritization, metric reporting and show progress to goals
  • Negotiate,maintain and publish updates on preferred suppliers by category and employee discounts offered.
  • Provide direction to internal customers on indirect preferred suppliers and pricing, as well as purchase order entry instructions for various order types.
  • Maintain/update various department metrics and tracking reports i.e. Indirect Managed Spend, Preferred Suppliers, Contracts, Annual Savings, etc.
  • Build, maintain and improve supplier relationships and remedy supplier performance issues related to customer service, on-time delivery and quality
  • Proactively identify and analyze cost savings opportunities for indirect goods and services
  • Reconcile payments and invoices and ensure compliance with approved supplier quotes and contracted prices and service expectations
  • Meet with Procurement Manager to review project status report, new project requests, prioritize and align on workload by identifying highest return actions and eliminating unproductive activities
  • Coordinate the necessary permits and approvals for projects
  • Develop, coordinate and deliver project communications including participating in project presentations, initiate and facilitate meetings, prepare meeting minutes, document project changes and approvals, resolve concerns, identify risks, and issue alerts in a timely and accurate manner
  • Support Indirect Procurement Manager on high priority/complex projects
  • Represent Procurement on cross-functional project teams

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years Procurement/Supply Chain experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree, or relevant experience in similar role
  • Proven track record of consistent performance and delivery
  • Solid interpersonal, communication, facilitation and presentation skills
  • Experience managing cross-functional change projects
  • Strong ability to prioritize and focus on delivering business goals
  • Demonstrated experience in sourcing and successful negotiation
  • Ability to work independently to identify and research relevant market, industry, and supplier information
  • Proven ability to build and manage effective Supplier relationships
  • Good influencing skills and personal impact to gain credibility quickly with internal stakeholders
  • Decisive, assertive, highly motivated and enthusiastic

  • Ability to work independently to identify and research relevant market, industry, and supplier information
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite; Excel required, (JDE a bonus)
