The Director of Inventory and Cost Accounting will report to the VP of Global Finance Operations and will be responsible for the cost accounting close by applying generally accepted accounting principles, and incorporating internal control procedures.  Other responsibilities include the maintenance of the actual/standard cost systems, manufacturing accounting and analysis, variance reporting, and accurate bill of materials (BOM)/assemblies in an integrated ERP environment.  A successful candidate will have experience in developing policies and procedures related new and existing products globally, and will work with various levels of the organization in support of goals and objectives as well as drive process improvements; provide guidance and coaching to staff to ensure the ongoing effectiveness of the function; highlight risk areas to management and work collaboratively to mitigate risks.  Other valuable attributes that we are seeking are a superb work ethic, strong analytical skills, capacity to get things done independently, and consistent performance with a sense of urgency and commitment.



  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and ensure consistent application of cost accounting principles
  • Lead annual standard cost setting and supporting margin analysis
  • Interpret and disseminate cost accounting information to management, highlight any risk areas
  • Analysis of manufacturing variances and the capitalization of variances
  • Manage the process of assessing inventory for excess and obsolescence reserves
  • Play lead role in global monthly inventory & cost close processes.
  • Responsible for reviewing cost accounting journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Manage day-to-day operations of the existing cost accounting function (farming, manufacturing, facility overhead, re-work, warehousing, etc.) including standard cost review, physical inventory, inventory reconciliations, system and non-system issues, Bill-of-Materials (BOM)/assemblies, work orders, intercompany transactions
  • Work closely with supply chain team to understand production schedules, contracts, inventory movements and other supply chain matters to ensure inventory is fairly stated on the balance sheet
  • Work closely with the VP of Global Finance Operations, CFO, VP Global Planning, and other senior executives of the organization to monitor key financial performance indicators and make recommendations to improve performance
  • Develop and maintain global accounting policies and procedures with respect to inventory and inventory related accounts
  • Responsible for meeting semi-annual and annual audit schedules and interface effectively with external auditors
  • Responsible for reviewing financial statement flux for reasonableness and accuracy with the ability to investigate and explain major variances
  • Ensuring adequate internal controls and financial integrity for inventory and COGS
  • Prepare ad hoc reporting and analyses and assist team with research on cost accounting questions and assist with special projects as requested
  • Provide leadership and take accountability for identifying and driving process and systems improvement initiatives
  • Streamline month end close process to improve efficiency and mitigate control risks
  • Ensure global operational processes and transactional activities encompasses both sound business and financial sense
  • Provide guidance and oversight on projects that impact inventory and COGS
  • Review LIFO reserve calculation for book purposes and tax provision



  • BS or BA with concentration in accounting or related field
  • MBA and/or CMA and CPA highly preferred
  • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to act as a business partner and communicate with senior management
  • Self-motivated with the ability to perform at high levels in a dynamic environment
  • Minimum 8 years of cost accounting experience using integrated ERP system (Oracle, SAP, JDE). Experience with US & international manufacturing cost accounting, a plus
  • Excellent spreadsheet and modeling skills
  • Strong customer focus dedicated to meeting expectations and requirements of internal and external customers
  • Experience in Business Intelligence, a plus
  • Ability to drive for results to complete goals successfully
  • Manage multiple tasks and projects with the ability to prioritize and respond quickly to customer requests based on shifting priorities
  • Seen as a team player that encourages collaboration and quickly gains trust and support of peers. Finds common ground and solves problems for the benefit of all
  • Expected to travel in Oregon and various counties in California for plant and vineyard visits.
  • Prior experience providing financial support to senior leadership, a plus.
